Mr. Xia Guohong, Vice President of China Aerospace Corporation(CASC), headed the Space delegation together with Mr. Zhang Xianghai, Chief Economist of the State Administration of Taxation, PRC, to visit the Intel Corp. headquarters in Santa Clara, California and its facilities and Distribution Center in Chandler, Arizona from Feb.25, 1996 on the invitation of Mr. Robert W. Reed, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Semiconductor Products Group, Intel Corp.

During the visit, both sides held high level review meetings to discuss the cooperation in the Golden Tax Module Project, particularly about the KT-1 chip and its technology cooperation, manufacture, quality control system, products delivery and other issues.

The Golden Tax Project is one of the State Priority Projects. CASC developed the Taxation Control System Terminal and Intel Corp. provides the KT-1 chips for the Terminals. Now in three cities (Anshan, Liaoning Province, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Prov. and Zhuhai, Guangdong Prov.) about 20 thousand terminals have been installed in Experimental operation for about one year, and the results are satisfactory. In 1996, our goal is to assemble about 100 to 300 thousand terminals to be installed in the relevant organizations for operation.

Intel admitted they can supply the chips on schedules accordingly. During our visit, both sides also discussed how to expand the cooperation in other fields. In April, one Intel mission will visit Beijing to exchange technical views about the new cooperation project between CASC and Intel.

After visiting Intel, arranged by Huadi Computer Co., LTD. Mr. Xia and CASC and DEC.
