products and electromechanical products to undertaking contracted international engineering projects, scientific and technical consultation, transportation, exhibition, traveling services and real estate management. The development of foreign trade of China's space industry has entered a new stage. The goal of CGWIC is based on space industry and geared to the needs of the whole country. Following the thinking of considering great matters, running great affairs, operating great projects, making great friends and creating great profits¡±, CGWIC takes economic benefit as its center, makes its good efforts to train personnel and to develop science and technology, concentrates its forces on the development of foreign trade of space industry and investment, the construction of export base and electromechanical products export, and actively develops diversified businesses and transnational businesses.
The establishment of a transnational enterprises group with trade as its guide, which integrates trade, finance, information, service, investment comprehensive organization and coordination, is the Corporation's developing strategy with which it stands firm at the competitive market, strives for its development and makes its trans-century development in an unconventional manner. Under the guidance of policy of operating from a strategically advantageous position, now CGWIC has become a fairly well-known high-tech foreign trade group corporation after 15 years' development of foreign trade, especially representing China to have entered the fiercely competitive high-tech international commercial satellite launch service market. It is the 53rd one of the 500 biggest import and export corporations in 1994 and is the 51st one of the 100 well-known enterprises chosen by China Enterprise Association. In 1995, it was chosen in 500 state-owned powerful enterprises.
As an important part of China's reform and opening to the outside world, after 17 China's indigenous satellites were successfully put into orbit by the Long March launch vehicle family, the Chinese Government announced in October 1985 that the Long March launch vehicle family would be offered commercially to customers throughout the world. During 10 years, CGWIC has successfully carried out 8 launches for foreign users, launched 6 satellites and conducted 2 space piggyback experiments. On August 5-8, 1987, the LM-2C successfully carried two microgravity piggyback experiments for Matra, France which created a precedent for China's space technology to enter the international market. On April 7, 1990, the LM-3 launch vehicle precisely put the AsiaSat-1 into the predetermined orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, which was the first time

for China to use its own launch vehicle to launch a large foreign commercial communications satellite. On August 14, 1992, China used its newly-developed high-thrust strap-on launch vehicle, the LM-2E to launch Australian communications Satellite Aussat (Auptus) and achieved a complete success, indicating that China had the capability to launch the second-generation heavy communications satellites. From 1993 to September 1995, CGWIC had signed 14 foreign commercial launch contracts, which indicates the rapid development of our space trade. The achievements of its space foreign trade greatly support and promote the development of China space technology. Following the successful development of the high-thrust strap-on launch vehicle, the LM-2E, completed in 1990, China also has developed a new three-stage launch vehicle, the LM-3A. The LM-3B and the LM-3C strap-on launch vehicles are based on the LM-3A. Therefore, China can provide a series of launch vehicles to put international commercial satellites with different weights and different applications into different orbits. At present, China has offered recoverable satellites and communications satellites to foreign customers, Swedish satellite, Freja, launched by China, is equipped with China-made onboard components, which began to export China's satellite components. Ten years' practice of China's international commercial satellite launch services proves that China entered the international commercial satellite launch service market, and won a high reputation in astronautical, scientific, technological, commercial and insurance circles, which lay a solid foundation for the steady development of China's international commercial satellite launch service and create good conditions for the development of China's space foreign trade. According to the existing launch contracts, by 2000 CGWIC will have launched 46 foreign satellites, including AsiaSat-2, the US Echostar, Intelsat 7A (failed to be launched because of the launch failure of the LM-3A on Feb. 15), Nahuel, Globalstar Mabuhay and Iridium System satellites. CGWIC will, as always, provide customers both at home and abroad with reliable, good quality and high-efficiency services and make its contribution to the peaceful use of outer space, and the prosperity and development of economy of China and other countries. Meanwhile, entering of China's space technology into the international commercial launch service market shows China's comprehensive national strength, heightens the country's prestige, inspires its national spirits, creates good social and economic benefits, and promotes the technological development of space and related scientific and technological industry.
Under the guidance of the policy of taking space business as its dominant factor, and developing a diversified businesses, CGWIC constantly strengthens its various functions and speeds up the construction of itself into a comprehensive commercial corporation. Since the establishment of China Aerospace Great Wall Enterprises Group in 1994, its profess-specific companies such as Aerospace Great Wall Enterprises Group International Technical & Economic Cooperation LTD, China Aerospace Exhibition Corp. LTD, International Transportation service Center, China Aerospace International Travel Service and China Astronautics Science and Technology Consultant Corp. have made great and innovative progress in their fields. In recent years, the import and export of electromechanical products increases rapidly.
After regulation and consolidation, the investment and development items have achieved success. By comparison with the previous year, income from investment increased by 66% in 1994. The buildings with total construction area of 150,000 mXm invested and constructed by the Corporation in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou were completed in 1995. In recent years, important investment and development projects: the joint ventures like Yunnan Harvest Group Co.LTD, Beijing Yilong Property Co.LTD and China Heyuan STIT City Company Limited set up with US Outstanding (International) Group Company Limited in Guangdong Province have obtained great profits and accumulated experiences for the development of the Corporation's diversified business. The construction of its export base has started, which has more than ten thousand personnel and a massive technician contingent. The Corporation's manufactures involved in producing precision machines, refrigerators, automobiles, communications equipment, optics, magnetic recorders, medical apparatus and instruments, Chemicals, special materials and constructive materials are complementary with the Corporation's foreign trade organizations in their advantages and are entering the international market together with them.
Observing the economic development structure of China and other countries, one can find the increasingly clear development trend that the economy is being regionalized, and companies are being grouped. The international and domestic markets are getting more competitive, and transnational business and domestic scale business are developing continuously. The international market of space products is relatively narrow, and various risks and restrictions make it more competitive than other trade areas. Under this situation, CGWIC is determined to take the good opportunity and meet challenges in the 21st century and firmly take the unconventional development road, establish a high-tech enterprises group with foreign trade as its guide and integrating trade, industry, finance, science, technology, information, service, investment, and comprehensive organizing and coordinating works, etc..
To achieve the above goal, we mainly plan to be based on and to serve space industry, to be geared to the needs of the whole country, to develop towards outside world and to combine domestic trade with foreign trade and to carry out diversified and intensive business in the light of comprehensive corporation. We also plan:
