Institute for Astronautics Information of China Aerospace Corporation |
The Institute for Astronautics Information (IAI), founded in 1981, is a state-owned institution which is directly under China Aerospace Corporation. It practices president responsibility system and has corporate capacity. It mainly provides decision-making consultation, and scientific and technological information services. Meanwhile, it is also responsible for the business coordination of information system in the whole aerospace system.
The Institute is the center of the aerospace information computer system, the C stage station of Internet network, the network control center of astronautics information LAN, one of the national first A stage units for retrieval of and search for the latest scientific and technological achievements. It is qualified for Beijing municipal technology intermediary unit, Beijing municipal technology consultation reputable unit and is where the presidents and secretaries-general of the professional information society and astronautics information society of China Aerospace Corporation come from. Astronautics Patent Agency affiliated to the institute is one of the first national patent agents which achieved patent agent qualification.
The Institute has close relationship with technological information organizations at home and abroad and is the member unit of China Information Society, China Science and Technology Information Society, China Information and Economy Society, Beijing Science & Technology Consultation Industry Society, Beijing Information Society, National Defense Science & Technology Information Society and the Chinese Society of Astronautics. It also has fixed business relationship or literature exchange relation with FACHINFOMATIONS-ZENTRUM, ISA-IRS, AIAA, NTIS of America, Michigan University, Cincinnati University, NASDA and Jane's Publishing Company Limited.
The institute has 310 staff and workers including 200 engineers and technicians among whom 70% are high and middle rank scientific and t echnical experts. It consists of many departments such as information research, editing and translation, document collecting and processing, computer, video-tape, patent agent; printing factory and labor service company.
The institute possesses 20 million Yuan of fixed assets including space information computer service system with U2200/201 as its host computer, more than 50 pieces of OA equipment which mainly are 586 and 486 PC computers, complete quasi-broadcasting audio-video equipment and laser phototypesetting and color printing equipment, etc..
The institute has formed a scientific and unique management system in 15 years since it was established, which was reflected in the two practical reference books, Regulations of IAI and IAI Information Service and Product Quality Manual. Its 5 scientific research achievements gained the National Scientific and Technological Progress Prizes and 10 achievements won the first and the second Scientific and Technological Progress Prizes from National Defense System, State Science and Technology Commission and CASC during the Eighth-Five-Year Plan. The president is the exemplary entrepreneur of CASC.
In order to serve the rapidly developed space technology industry and greet the 21st century, staff and workers of IAI are working hard to achieve its goal of the Ninth-Five-Year Plan.
